Neo Se Rei De
Good afternoon and welcome to the Daily Lunchtime News on Channel News Singapore. My name is Neo Se Rei De. The date today is 3 August, 1964, the time now is 1.01pm.
Breaking news from the recent race riot: it has finally ended! 11 days after it has started, the race riot has cooled off just yesterday, and we have an exclusive coverage with the current leaders of the post-rioting groups. Our reporter, Ray Po Da is reporting live to present the great news to us.

Ray Po Da
Hey! It’s Ray Po Da. And it really is wonderful news that the race riot lasting 11 days has finally ended yesterday! Now, here with us are Muhammad Slim Bin Rul and Mann Da Rin Rok, who were mortal enemies during the riot. Now, they suddenly have resolved their problems! What happened, Muhammad Slim?

Mu Slim Rul
Ah, just call me Mu Slim Rul, all my friends do. Ok, this is how it started. On 22 July, a lot of us Muslims went to the Padang to celebrate the prophet Muhammad’s birthday. After the traditional speeches, we went to Geylang to celebrate some more. On our way, some of us, including me, we want to go toilet for a while, so we go another way from the others. I think it was about 5 something when one Chinese policeman come and tell us that we must go back and join the group.

Ray Po Da
Oh? And is this Chinese policeman related to you, Mr. Mann Da?

Mann Da Rin Rok
Aiyah, no need be so formal one la. Just call me Mann Da Rin Rok can liao, like I call you Ray Po Da, not Mister Po Da or whatever la. Anyway, he is my friend, his name is Poh Lee Se Marne. On that day, I want to see how he do his work, because I never see him when he work before. Then I tell him, I go hide somewhere so I won’t interfere with his work. Then I saw him tell some Malay people to go somewhere, I didn’t hear properly.

Mu Slim Rul
I tell him that we want to go toilet a while, but he insist, then we argue a while. Then suddenly, the policeman took out his black club thing and whack one of the loud Malay people on the head! Wah, so much blood come out and I think he died there. Then I scold the policeman, “Eh! Why you beat him? He only want to go toilet, then you beat him for what? Who call you stop us from going to toilet, huh?” Then of course he very angry, saying that it’s his fault for wasting his time cause we never listen to him in the first place, then we got very very angry, and some people, not me, go and hit him until he go hospital.

Mann Da Rin Rok
Yah, but now he recover liao. And he beat the Malay guy because I saw him shi shi on Po Lee Se Marne lah. Then I come out and I shout at the Malay people, then they start hitting me for no reason leh! Ah, I damn suay la. Then of course I not happy la, then I fight with them.

Mu Slim Rul
Oh, no wonder so smelly. Anyway, at about 9 something at night, some people came with all the armor and they say that the government say that he declare a curfew at 9.30, and the guards start to stop the fighting. Then we just stare and curse at them until about 6 in the morning, when the guards say that the curfew is over, and then we start fighting again lor.

Mann Da Rin Rok
Now I tell you how it end. Yesterday, 2 August, we were fighting, as usual, and somehow we were pushed to the front of the row, but at the side ar, then a passer-by call out, “Ay! Why you all are fighting ar?” Then I expect Mu Slim Rul to reply, and he expect me to reply, then in the end we realize that we forgot why we fight nia!

Mu Slim Rul
So we agreed on a small truce while we sit in a room and discuss why we were fighting. By that time, the policeman recover already, so we go hospital and talk to him, or rather he talked to him, I cannot come in because I scared he whack me again...

Mann Da Rin Rok
After that, I go tell him what Poh Lee Se Marne say and then we agree that it was the boy who peed on the policeman’s fault, and anyway, he is dead, so we think, why do we continue to want revenge? The insulter is dead, the policeman is alive and well… So we discuss with our groups, and we all agreed that we shouldn’t continue fighting, or else more people will kenna kill. You know, 20+ people died and 400+ people were injured!

Mu Slim Rul
Yah, a lot right? Then we see the place where we fight, wa very destroyed ah! So we combine together and repair the place, now still repairing. We try to get the other people to help us, got a lot of work to do ah!

Ray Po Da
Wow, what an interesting coverage! I bet the other reporters didn’t have a chance to get such unique information!

Mann Da Rin Rok
Of course la, we just told the other kiasu reporters that the government make us stop one. Of course la, you all promise us that you will help us repair the building, how can we say no?

Mu Slim Rul
No la, actually we just want to embrace diversity and build up our community lah! You know, that’s our motto now.

Ray Po Da
Oh, well then, I wish you both good luck. Wow! This event will certainly be recorded in history! Now that the chaos is over, Singapore will be calm once more! Well, at least till the next riot… Anyway, till then, this is Ray Po Da, signing off! Now, back to the studio. Neo Se Rei De?

Neo Se Rei De
Thank you, and that was Ray Po Da, reporting live.
Singapore will remain quiet for a while, that is, until the next riot. How soon will that arrive? Stay tuned on Channel News Singapore for the latest updates on Singapore’s news. On other news today… *fade out*

The end. *Bloopers*
